Fancy Pigeon Taxidermy Workshop with Katie of Afterlife Anatomy

Saturday, April 26 from 12-6PM

During this workshop you will be introduced  to basic small bird taxidermy processes. Each student will be provided with their own pre-skinned, partially prepped Fancy Pigeon specimen; (a non native and invasive species), which they will skin, flesh, tumble, and prep for mounting. A skinning demonstration will be shown. Students will learn how to mount a bird using its skull, make an armature, and learn how to preserve the skin and pose it. Students will learn how to make a custom body for their specimens using an old traditional taxidermy technique of wrapping a body. Using the carcass for reference, students will learn how to build up and craft the bodies. Legalities of working with birds and bird parts will also be discussed. A copy of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA) will be brought to class and passed around to students. All specimens, materials, and tools for the class are provided by the instructor. Each student will leave with their own finished mount.
